Our client is a US based global MNC that designs & manufactures high power electronics packaging & vacuum chambers that supports power conversion and control products that transform power into various usable forms for use primarily in the semiconductor / wafer manufacturing process. We are currently working with them to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with New Product Design & Development experience to help develop the next generation RF power electronics / high power amplification product lines.

As a key member of this new & expanding team you will be required to provide mechanical support for product development and act as a technical lead for all aspects of the mechanical engineering, design and documentation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
• Prepare detailed mechanical designs of high power electronics packaging and vacuum chambers able to perform mathematical calculations to determine dimensions, hole and component locations and tolerances.
• You will be required to specify experiments and procedures to prove, test, and monitor design concepts, especially as applied to thermal and stress/strain data sets.
• Your role will also require you to acquire empirical data sets with scripting or algorithms, and correlates the data sets to provide solution paths for challenging problems. Data is used to correlate FEA and hand calculations.
• Working with vendors and in-house materials team to produce manufacturable (DFM) and reliable designs you will be expected to guide experiments and activities of other engineers and technicians on a multi-disciplinary design team.
• You will also be required to design ceramic components plus sheet metal and machined parts.

SolidWorks Experience:
• Good detailed knowledge of SolidWorks + knowledge of FEA, CFD + experience of relevant software packages eg: SolidWorks / Ansys / Ansi
GD&T / design tolerance stack-ups:
• Understanding of mechanical tolerances, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) , and tolerance stack-up analysis
• Experience of product design to very fine Design tolerance stack-ups; spacing of electronics components / spacing of sheet metal components / cooling networks / heat tolerances / etc
Thermal Modelling:
• Good understanding of electronics cooling requirements and approaches and a understanding of heat transfer in Product Design
• Thermal modelling / analysis – in particular heat transfer in electronics packaging with hundreds – 1000’s of watts.
New Product Design / Development:
• Design of New Products in particular; Electronics packaging equipment / Big Box electronics / transmitters / Mobile Base station equipment / Radar / vacuum chambers / power electronics / etc
• Design using Sheet metal / machined parts / ceramic components

BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Design for Manufacture (DFM) / Design for Cost (DFC) – have brought products to Production
• Worked with vendors covering Sheet metal / machined parts
• Worked with factory / manufacturing operations teams to transition Design to Production
• Worked on Manufactured products of over 500 items p/a
• Understanding of PDM software used to track Part revisions
