Job description
We’re seeking an experienced Production Engineering Team Lead to join a global financial technology organisation delivering mission-critical trading and market infrastructure solutions. This leadership role combines technical expertise, operational oversight, and people leadership, ensuring the stability, reliability, and performance of business-critical trading platforms across multiple regions.
As a key leader within the production engineering function, you will drive operational excellence, oversee incident and change management practices, champion reliability initiatives, and help shape the evolution of a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)-aligned operating model. You will work closely with engineering, platform, and business stakeholders while mentoring and developing a team of Production Engineers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and mentor a team of Production Engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Act as the senior escalation point for complex production incidents, ensuring timely resolution and effective stakeholder communication.
Own the overall health, stability, and operational performance of business-critical trading platforms.
Drive operational readiness across platforms and regions, ensuring consistent support processes and service standards.
Define and maintain observability standards, including monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and operational reporting.
Oversee change and release governance, balancing platform stability, risk management, and delivery objectives.
Coordinate major incident management activities, ensuring effective technical leadership, communication, and recovery execution.
Lead problem management initiatives, ensuring root causes are identified and preventative actions are implemented.
Define and execute reliability improvement roadmaps aligned with business priorities and platform risk profiles.
Partner with Engineering, DevOps, Operations, and Business stakeholders to influence platform strategy and operational best practices.
Drive automation and tooling initiatives to reduce operational toil and improve service reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
Support the adoption of SRE principles, reliability metrics, and modern production engineering practices across the organisation.
REQUIREMENTS:
Extensive experience supporting business-critical applications within financial services, trading environments, or other high-availability platforms.
Proven experience leading production support, site reliability, platform operations, or production engineering teams.
Strong expertise in AWS operational environments, including load balancing, failover strategies, compute services, and managed databases.
Deep understanding of electronic trading workflows, market data flows, pricing mechanisms, and session-based connectivity.
Strong incident management and problem management experience, including leading high-severity and business-critical incidents.
Demonstrated ability to drive root cause analysis, operational improvements, and long-term reliability initiatives.
Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, CloudWatch, ELK, or Splunk.
Strong understanding of change management, deployment governance, risk assessment, and production readiness practices.
Experience managing stakeholder relationships across business, operations, engineering, and leadership teams.
Knowledge of FIX protocols, messaging systems, market connectivity, or real-time transactional platforms is highly desirable.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployment frameworks.
Experience driving automation, platform resilience, and operational efficiency initiatives.
Understanding of SRE concepts, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, reliability metrics, and service ownership models.
Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills with the ability to influence technical and operational outcomes.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
