Storage and Backup Engineer

Job description

The Storage and Backup engineer role includes but is not limited to support, maintenance, architecture and
design, project delivery and customer engagements
· Providing third/fourth level escalation support for the Manage Hosting Services
· Performing infrastructure deployment and capacity expansion to deliver managed services
· Participate on technology updates and maintaining reliable core infrastructure by ensuring that
software & hardware are updated to supported and secure levels
· Performing professional services engagements for clients.

Responsibilities:
· Responding to Escalations from the command centre, resolving issues and executing changes in a timely
manner
· Integration of New Hosting Clients and additional client services, including: client liaison, design critiquing
and build/configuration of client solutions
· Execution of engineering projects, either locally or as part of a global team, including project planning and
management, creation of design specifications and completion of project tasks to agreed milestones
· Work with customers and vendors to resolve escalated issues in a timely manner
· Daily review and update of open trouble tickets being worked with the aim of keeping these to a minimum
· Work with client, Project Managers, CSP’s and Network Engineering teams to provide client services and
installation
· Perform Professional Service work for clients
· Preparation of client supporting documentation
· Involvement in an out of hours on-call rota for escalations

Requirements:
· Degree and/or equivalent experience
· Significant knowledge and understanding of SAN, backup and storage technologies
· 8+ years working experience in operation and infrastructure Support for a number of the following Product,
technologies and associated management tools:
o HPE 3PAR, EMC, Hitachi, IBM and NetApp storage arrays.
o Broadcom (Brocade), Cisco, EMC and HP SAN switches.
o SAN software (NetApp Oncommand, HPE Infosight, BNA)
o NAS technologies (NetApp)
o Symantec Veritas NetBackup and Appliance
o Symantec Opscenter
o EMC Data Domain
o Quantum, ADIC and HP tape libraries and VTL

· Extended Knowledge of the following backup features:
o Deduplication
o Encryption
o System Recovery
o VMDK Backup
o MSDP and Puredisk
o Commvault

· Sound knowledge of the following: Redhat Linux, Windows 2008/2012/2016
· Preferable with programming and scripting skills, ActivePerl and shell scripting
· Experience in a data centre operation and support of high-availability
